Earlier this year, Nigeria again made history as it became the first African nation ever to be represented at the Winter Olympics when the trio of Akuoma Omeoga, Seun Adigun and Ngozi Onwumere became the very first Africans to participate in the bobsled at the just concluded Winter Olympics which was held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
While Seun and Akuoma made their own history by finishing their first run on the women's bobsled and becoming the first African athletes to compete in bobsled, their counterpart Simidele Adeagbo competed in the skeleton.
Before going on to make history, Adigun had represented Nigeria in track at the 2012 Olympics and resided in Texas pursuing a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Texas Chiropractic College as well as a Master of Science in Exercise and Health Sciences from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Omeoga on her part sprinted for the University of Minnesota and Onwumere was a sprinter at the University of Houston.
Needless to say that these continental heroes were faced with a lot of difficulties as they prepared to break bounds and change the status quo but they continued, undaunted by the enormous task ahead of them and they succeeded. This bobsled team represents the true Nigerian spirit of never-give-up, of resilience, adventure and enterprise. They have shown the world the stuff that Nigerians are made of. Nigerians are proud of them, Africa is proud of them, the world is proud of them
    Go girls!
