NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN LAW: What Government must do to ensure youth success in polls

President Buhari on Thursday signed the #NotTooYoungToRun Bill, reducing the minimum age to run for the office of the President from 40 to 30 years, State and Federal representatives from 30 to 25, while the minimum age to run for Senate and governorship positions remain the same, that is 30 years of age.

Although this is a welcome development for young persons across the country, I think it is not yet Uhuru.
First, what is the essence of knowing you can run for a particular office when there is no enabling environment to ensure your success in the polls?
Second, how many young persons in Nigeria have the financial capacity to contest with the old money bags? I mean the likes of Buhari, Atiku, Tinubu, David Mark, Obasanjo and the other political elites who have all the money to sway the political pendulum as a result of long years of massive looting and political misrule?
This brings us to another problem, the issue of recycling, because there is a possibility that as soon as these old politicians are done effing with us they would sponsor their sons and family members with their mostly ill-gotten wealth to eff us some more.
I submit here that this government and any incoming government has to do more than tell us we can go to war, it needs to arm us with the necessary weaponry to succeed. Now we are not asking for handouts and or to be spoon-fed. We are asking for the government to do the following; at least,

1. Create jobs for the youths. Because more than half of the "electable" youths don't have jobs, not to talk of the financial capacity to run.

2. Create enabling environment for business startups to thrive.

3. Come up with an improved                  minimum wage scheme for workers.

4. Have more young persons who are below 30 years serve in Federal and state cabinets/government parastatals.

Nevertheless, it is a good thing that the government has shown readiness to allow young Nigerians run for political offices, but they must also show readiness to see young persons and women actually succeed, as that is an area where we have seen that we need all the help we can get, mostly from young persons and women, knowing fully well that the old elites have failed us.
