NASS ASK BUHARI TO SACK IG OR FACE IMPEACHMENT
The National Assembly in a joint session today has asked the president to sanction the Inspector General of Police or risk impeachment.
The lawmakers also gave the executive a marching order and stop the wanton killing of Nigerians and also ensure that their lives and properties are protected.
During the joint session which held in Abuja, the lawmakers passed a vote of confidence on the Senate President Bukola Saraki and his green carpet counterpart Yakubu Dogara, while also passing a vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of police. According to the lawmakers, “We reaffirm our earlier resolution of vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of Police who does nothing other than preside over the killing of innocent Nigerian and consistent framing up of perceived political opponents of the President and outright disregard for constitutional authority, both executive and legislative."
The legislature urged the government to show sincerity in the fight against corruption, they said “The Government should show sincerity in the fight against corruption by not being selective also prosecute current appointees that have cases pending against them." Even as the president was also asked to take immediate steps to curtail the growing level of unemployment and poverty in Nigeria.
The lawmakers ended their session by asking the president to address the resolutions passed. The communique read “Finally, the National Assembly will not hesitate to evoke its Constitutional powers if nothing is done to address the above resolutions passed today."
I think the face off between the executive and the legislature has reached its climax. Fellow Nigerians, let's get us some popcorn!!
