Yahaya Bello has made his intentions to run for the presidential post in Nigeria, under the platform of the APC, clear. Although the chances of him getting the party's ticket are still blurry, depending on whether the national chairmanship position goes to North Central.

How his presidential Ambitions May be Affected

With feelers from the All Progressive Congress pointing to the fact that the party might zone the national chairmanship position of the party to the North Central, Yahaya Bello who is from the same region of the country may not have the presidential ticket to vie for the presidency under APC.

Most of the aspirants who have indicated an interest in the post of the APC National Chairman are from the North Central, including, Tanko Al-Makura and George Akume, who are from Nasarawa State and Benue State, respectively.

In the event that the party agrees to zone the chairmanship post to the North Central region and the post is given to any of the aspirants from that region, Governor Bello's presidential hopes may suffer.

This is because the party has never had both the presidential candidate of the party and the national chairman of the party from one geopolitical zone of the country.

While President Muhammadu Buhari from the North West was seeking office, Chief Bisi Akande from the Southwest was the chairman of the party. Similarly, the chairmanship position of the party has remained in the South until the removal of former governor Adams Oshiomhole.

From the foregoing, one may conclude that the All Progressive Congress may not give the presidential ticket to a candidate from the North Central, while its national chairman hails from the same region.
